A state of suspension between present and future can be a source of hope or fear－extreme emotions we all experience－it is one of the axioms of our existence. In my latest works I have portrayed female figures frozen in the present moment, suspended in the space “in between”. It is a space that separates the present from what is anticipated or unknown. An atmosphere of melancholy and concentration makes itself felt. I am also focusing on gesture as a ritual form. Human nature encompasses that which is known and unknown. Both of these make us what we are. Both are essential to us. We need this unknown place we are heading towards.
